There are few things as aesthetically important to a house or building as the front door. It provides the first impression to any structure, and deciding on the design of it is essential to the overall look. Custom doors can establish the style of a house or building, as the design can be specifically made to suit the desires of the home or building owner. Quality construction is characteristic of custom doors, as they are typically made with considerably more care than mass-produced doors. With a little research and a lot of imagination, a custom door is possible for any building. The design of a custom door should be consistent with the style of the house or building under construction. One of the most interesting parts of using a custom door is that the building owner can replicate a door they have seen on a famous structure. Ideas can be gleaned from looking at historic buildings and those ideas can be incorporated into the design of a custom door. All that is needed is an experienced designer who considers custom door construction to be a form of art. When considering a custom door, it is important to research designers that are experienced in using the materials desired. Custom doors can be constructed with wood, glass, metal, or a combination of those materials. It is important for home or building owners to have some idea as to the type of and budget for the door they have in mind so that the custom door designer is able to accurately design the door for style and price. Many people ordering custom doors provide their designers with photos and drawings of doors they find appealing. Doing so is immensely helpful to the designer.
Another great characteristic of a custom door is the quality of construction. Custom doors are typically handmade slowly and carefully. Wood doors are usually made of solid wood and not a combination of wood and particleboard. Pieces of wood are carefully selected for hardness, color, and even knots and grains in the wood. Glass is meticulously etched, and the finest of metal is chosen. Custom doors can provide the aesthetics the home or building owner is looking for, and they will provide the quality to last a long time. Home or building owners considering a custom door should also take into consideration the care that will be required for the door they desire. If the custom door is primarily made of wood, the owner should discuss with the design what kind of maintenance is going to be needed for such a door. Frequency of re-staining and type of materials for cleaning the custom door in mind should be considered to ensure the door will look its best for many years to come. Uniqueness of design and superior craftsmanship are qualities of every custom door. Whether designing a new home or updating the look of an existing building, a custom door can be exactly what the structure needs to enhance its beauty. Flatscreen LCD or plasma TV’s are the hottest trend in home entertainment, and more and more people either have it already or have just purchased it. Compact media furniture options like TV wall stands are also becoming increasingly popular with the prevalence of LCD and plasma TVs. Transitioning from a conventional TV to a flatscreen LCD or plasma makes you want to rethink on how best to display your LCD or plasma, after all you want to display your latest acquisition to its advantage. A TV wall stand can be perfect as it creates a stunning, sleek look, and projects a theatre like ambience at home. Advantages of a TV Wall Stand Whether you have a small apartment or a large house, TV wall stands can not only increase your viewing pleasure with unobtrusive different viewing angles, but can also visually enhance the décor of any space, giving the room a good look and feel with its subtle design. TV wall stands can be mounted on walls, thereby advantageously freeing up a lot of floor space while providing a better look. Apart from being space efficient, with TV wall stands, you can mount the television on the wall at a height comfortable for your watching experience, and at an ideal angle that will complement your room décor and purpose of the room. For instance, in your media room or den, you can place your TV on a mounted wall stand centrally located on the wall; or you have the flexibility of mounting the television on the ceiling in your kitchen or home gym. TV wall stands can also display large sized LCD or plasma TVs in a small room, which could have otherwise overwhelmed the room if placed in the traditional way. TV wall stands will keep your expensive equipment out of reach of children. TV wall stands are also universal, and can be adjusted to fit your television regardless of its size. Types of TV Wall Stands. LCD and plasma TVs are mounted by special wall mounts, usually made of metal. There are various types of TV wall stands, varying from the basic fixed TV wall stand to some which have different sophisticated features like ‘rotation angles’, ‘hinge joints’ or ‘swivels’. Fixed TV Wall Stand This is the most basic of all wall stands and is fixed in a static position. This type of TV wall stand is the least flexible as it cannot be moved in any way - angles cannot be adjusted and there is no scope for tilting or movement. These types of TV wall stands are the least expensive and are ideal for rooms which have just one or two seating areas to watch television. This type of TV wall stand is one of the simplest to fix on the wall. A fixed TV wall stand can also hold any TV securely to the wall, regardless of its size. Tilt TV Wall Stands Tilt TV wall stands are just like fixed TV wall stands, with the only difference being that you can tilt the stand connected to the TV for a change in the viewing angle. Tilting TV wall stands allow some flexibility in viewing angles, although you cannot move it on a horizontal or vertical axis. Tilting in a TV wall stand is a great feature so you can adjust the angle of the television for the best possible view, avoiding any kind of unwanted reflection of light or glare that may fall on the television. You can optimize the tilt angle best suited for your current seating position. Swivel TV Wall Stands. Apart from the ability to change its tilt or angle, same as the tilt TV wall stands, the swivel TV wall stand has an added benefit of being able to move leftwards or rightwards. Just as it sounds, a swivel TV wall stand can turn left or right, providing a great deal of advantage for changing the viewing angle. These types of TV wall stands, however, will be at some distance from the wall, to enable the swivel motion with ease. Articulating TV Wall Stand TV wall stands that let the television swing away from the wall on an arm are called articulating TV wall stands. These stands have all the features of a tilt TV wall stand and swivel TV wall stand. It can swivel left or right, and can be tilted for a better viewing angle, and the added advantage of tilting left or right. This type of TV wall stand is versatile as the viewing position can be fixed to your viewing convenience. Full Motion TV Wall Stands This is one of the most flexible wall stands in comparison with the other types as it offers maximum access to a viewer in terms of adjusting the viewing angle. You can not only tilt the angle, and swivel the TV to the right or left, but also move the viewing angle horizontally to a complete 360 degree full motion on its arm, so you can potentially view your television from multiple areas. This wall stand can be adjusted by bending and extending the arm to your convenient viewing angle. Before selecting a TV wall stand, however, there are some practical considerations. What is the weight of your LCD or plasma? Not all types of wall stands can support the weight of your TV, so choose something that can support your TV and add aesthetic value to your décor. An LCD or plasma may not be too heavy, but they could break easily if they fall. So select a TV wall stand that can comfortably hold your TV in place. Secondly, test the wall which you have selected as the place to mount your LCD or plasma. If the wall is not sturdy, then look at an alternative wall. Finally, keep in mind the dimensions of the LCD or plasma TV. If the wall stand is bigger than your TV, then you might be wasting space on your wall. On the other hand, if it’s too small, it becomes unusable. Which type should you go for? Depending on your room dimensions, and where you intend to place the television, choose a TV wall stand according to your personal preference and budget. There are various types of TV wall stands with various features that can meet your need. About the author When it comes to TV stands, Julia is the girl to turn to. Wood parquet flooring has emerged as one of the favorites in interior design for homes. It is elegant and comes with a unique design. Parquet flooring is durable and can withstand heavy traffic in your home. Basically, parquet flooring is made up of small pieces of wood joined together to form different kinds of geometric patterns. These small pieces of wood are laid out on top of a soft wood to maintain an even surface. After the process of joining these pieces of wood, the final output will create a unique design on the flooring which adds up some artistic beauty to the floor. With the unique design created with these wood parquet floorings, many homeowners are beginning to like investing in them. Wood parquet flooring is considered an art with the objective of creating another type of geometric figure for design. The process of combining the pieces together can be done manually or through the use of a machine intended for such purpose. The process is similar to the installation of tile flooring. It only differs in the materials used since parquet flooring uses soft wood. Installation is simple if you know the proper procedures. But if you think you can?t do it, it is advisable to hire skilled worker who can install it for you, so you will not waste money and time. Once the wood parquet flooring is installed properly, inspect it thoroughly and ensure that there are no gaps in any of the surface. Gaps can cause warping in the future. It is also important that you must learn how to take care of your investment to prevent it from any damage. Just like in any wood flooring, avoid any liquid in the surface of the parquet. If there are any spills, wipe the liquid immediately with a slightly damp cloth or mop. Avoid dragging any objects or furniture on the floor because it will leave serious scratches and might even peel off the finish. Cleaning this type of flooring is quite easy with proper floor polisher and cotton cloth. Make sure to use cleaning solutions exclusively made for wood floorings. Using any cleaning solution not intended for wood flooring might cause stains and damage, due to chemical reactions. Regularly remove dirt and dust to maintain the smooth surface of the parquet as well as make it always look new. When using a vacuum cleaner, be careful not to over do it, because it will wear out the finish.
Should there be any noticeable scratches on your parquet floors you can use touch up sticks usually made of wax to match the color of the scratched areas. Use a putty knife to remove any excess then buff the treated area. You can also use markers that contain wood stain which you can purchase in your local hardware. These markers can be used to cure scratches in any area of your wood parquet flooring. If there is severe damage with your parquet flooring, you can treat the area on your own. Use a masking tape surrounding the damaged area, and then use a fine sand paper and sand off the damaged portion. After sanding, re-stain the area and apply a new finish. Buff the affected portion until you are satisfied with the result. Many people are intimidated by electronic devices, such as security alarm systems. In reality the system is relatively simple. Three basic elements are involved in the system: sensors, control panel, and alarms (or alerts). These work together very much like your own nervous system. Think about what happens when you touch a hot stove. Nerve endings are the receptors (like sensors), when triggered a message is sent to your brain (like the control panel), your brain signals your muscles to recoil (like the alarm or alert). Let’s take a look at the security alarm equipment: Sensors The sensors are the part of the system that are set to detect potential problems. These sensors are designed to detect opening doors and/or windows, broken window glass, movement inside or outside of the house, smoke or carbon monoxide. A basic security system typically includes a motion detector and door and window sensors. Other sensors can be added to the system to focus on particular safety threats (such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors) or on specific areas of concern (like driveway or swimming pool sensors) Control Panel When a sensor is triggered, a message is sent to the control panel. This is the brain or nerve center of the system. It is designed to receive signals from the various sensors and can indicate which zone (area of the house or property) the message is coming from. Next, the control panel triggers the appropriate, predetermined alert or alarm. Additionally, the control panel, as the name suggests, is the point at which the system is controlled. The panel will include a keypad that allows the entire system to be controlled: it can be deactivated, specific alarms delayed, automatically activated (panic button), or other adjustments made. Alerts Usually we think of an alarm being sounded when a security system is tripped. That very often is exactly the case. There are, however, other programmed alerts that can be activated. Some alerts may simply be a chime for usual door opening during the course of a day or a driveway alarm signaling a vehicle arriving in the driveway. Some alerts are in the form of an automated phone call. These can be programmed for police or fire departments and/or to your cell phone. Alerts can also be programmed for delay such as when you return home from being away and enter your home. The delay allows time for the system to be deactivated. It is wise to keep alert delays to a minimum as these can work to an intruder’s advantage as well. About the author See how even you can learn do-it-yourself home security.
